The HomePad hub is expected to headline Apple's October 13 event.

October 13. 9 AM ET. Apple is finally walking into the smart home.

The “Welcome Home” event is official, and it is all happening in Tribeca, New York. After years of watching Ring and Nest run the table, Apple is showing its hand: a HomePad hub, a new HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K, and a behind-the-scenes LG partnership covering doorbells, locks, and cameras. Here is what is actually known heading into the Apple October 2026 event.

When, Where, and How to Watch

Tuesday, October 13. 9 AM Eastern, 6 AM Pacific. Apple is calling it an “Apple Experience,” and the format is strange for Apple: hands-on time inside a residential-style setup in Tribeca instead of a keynote stage.

Greg Joswiak confirmed it on October 8 with a post on X. The teaser shows hands stitching Apple’s old rainbow logo into fabric, then cuts to “Welcome home. October 13.” Make of that what you will.

No public livestream is confirmed. A few outlets expect YouTube, but until Apple says it, plan on refreshing live blogs. West Coast readers: set two alarms. For context, the Apple October 2026 event is Apple’s first October event since “Scary Fast” in 2023.

HomePad Is the Whole Bet

Everything else is supporting cast. The HomePad, known in the rumor mill as J490, is Apple’s first real smart home hub. Picture a roughly 6-inch square display, described by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman as an iPad crossed with a HomePod, built for the kitchen counter instead of a desk.

Two flavors, reportedly. A wall-mount version. And a tabletop model with a half-dome speaker base and a tilting metal arm. Yes, everyone is making the iMac G4 comparison. It is warranted.

What it should do: run a new homeOS with Siri AI front and center, control lights and accessories by voice, handle FaceTime calls with Center Stage, show the calendar, play music. A camera and presence sensor might recognize who just walked in and adjust the screen. That last part is the kind of thing that sounds like a gimmick until you live with it.

Why did it take so long? Siri. The hub has been delayed repeatedly, reportedly waiting on an assistant good enough to carry a voice-first device. If the Apple October 2026 event really is the launch, Siri must finally be ready. For Apple Home households, this is the missing piece the ecosystem has needed for years.

The LG Deal Is the Sleeper Story

Here is what most coverage of the Apple October 2026 event will bury. Apple did not just build a hub. It co-designed an entire accessory line with LG, as Bloomberg reported on October 6 via MacRumors.

The lineup comes from FCC and UL filings: a wired video doorbell, a smart deadbolt lock with UWB auto-unlock, a thermostat, a temperature sensor, indoor and outdoor cameras, and a floodlight cam.

The twist is the branding. LG’s name goes on the box, not Apple’s. Apple handled design and features; LG does manufacturing and support. Old hands will recognize the playbook. Apple ran the same second-party arrangement with Belkin and Logitech accessories for years.

Do not expect these on stage October 13. The LG hardware is reportedly months behind Apple’s own devices. A teaser mention is the realistic ceiling, and even that is not guaranteed.

Rumored LG lineup co-developed with Apple
Product What filings and reports say
Video doorbell (wired) Hardwired, camera built in
Smart deadbolt lock UWB for auto-unlock on approach
Smart thermostat Details still thin
Temperature sensor Room-level climate sensing
Indoor / outdoor cameras Plug-in models
Floodlight cam Outdoor security with floodlight

On connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter across most of the lineup. That Matter column is doing more work than it looks. More on that below.

Shopping for a lock right now? Here is the current state of smart door locks with cameras, which is exactly what Apple and LG are walking into.

And if your existing deadbolt is staying put no matter what gets announced, how to change a door lock code still applies.

Also on the Docket: HomePod mini 2, Apple TV 4K

Both are ancient by tech standards. The HomePod mini launched in 2020. The Apple TV 4K is from 2022. Expect faster silicon and Siri AI, not redesigns. Their real value is quieter: cheap Thread border routers and Matter controllers in every room, doing the unglamorous work that makes the HomePad story function. Nobody is camping out for these. That is fine. They are infrastructure.

What It Means for US Smart Homes

Zoom out from the Apple October 2026 event and the strategy is legible. Ring owns the American doorbell. Nest owns the thermostat. Apple is coming at both with a privacy pitch and hardware people do not mind looking at. It is the same premium playbook, applied to a category where the incumbents won on price and ubiquity.

Matter is the tell. If the whole Apple October 2026 event lineup speaks Matter and Thread, Apple is not building a walled garden this time. It is building the nicest house in an open neighborhood. That matters in the US, where the average smart home is already a drawer full of mixed brands barely cooperating.

Buying advice, such as it is: do not buy a hub or doorbell between now and October 13 unless something is broken. And whatever you buy, make it Matter-compatible. Smart bulbs like these will survive whatever gets announced, because the standard outlives the launch cycle.

FAQs

When is the Apple October 2026 event?

Tuesday, October 13, at 9 AM ET (6 AM PT), when the Apple October 2026 event kicks off in Tribeca. It is an in-person “Apple Experience,” and Apple has not confirmed a public livestream.

What is the Apple HomePad?

Apple’s rumored smart home hub, expected at the Apple October 2026 event. Reports describe a roughly 6-inch display in two versions: wall-mountable, or tabletop with a speaker base and tilting arm. It should run a new homeOS with Siri AI, control smart accessories, handle FaceTime calls, and recognize household members via camera and presence sensing. None of it is official until Apple says so on stage.

Is Apple making a smart lock?

Not under its own name. Apple co-developed a smart deadbolt with LG, reportedly with UWB for auto-unlock as you approach. It will carry LG branding, and it is not expected for several more months. The October 13 event is about Apple’s own hub, speaker, and set-top box.

Will the new devices work with my existing smart home gear?

Probably, through Matter and Thread. The new Apple and LG hardware reportedly supports both, which means it should cooperate with accessories from other brands instead of demanding an all-Apple house. That is a real departure for Apple, and it is the detail to watch on October 13.
